First part of the painting stage of my Trixie sculpt:

Step 1) basecoat in grey and then black primers.
Step 2) the coat was given a basecoat of Citadel thunderhawk blue and highlighted with Citadel Shadow gray all the way up to Citadel Spacewolves grey. The highlights were focused on the face and the front legs as this is where the lighting will be strongest.
step 3) the tail and mane were painted with Citadel Spacewolves grey and highlighted with white
step 4) the cloak was basecoated with a 50/50 mix of Citadel genestealer purple and Citadel Dark Reaper
step 5 ) the cloak was highlighted by adding white to the mix and shaded by adding more of the the dark reaper.

next steps: paint the designes on the hat and cloak, paint the glowing magic effects and cutiemark.

Even i use the same colour palette my Trixie has different colours. But i for myself prefer white as basecoat, so the initial position is different. (and the names of the colour are the old ones.) You maked her. Is that only for security or do you use a Airbrush?

Interesting you use a grey for the coat. I startet with no other than tentacle Pink. Then i used a mix of warlock purple and Enchanted blue with some medium vladuras (that's from Vallejo)
Tail and mane was a mix of Enchanted blue and ice blue, white for highlights.
For the stars and dots on the coat i did use a lot of different yellow or mixed it with white. Ice blue for the blue stars.

It's fascinating how others do their work, even they use nearly the same tools.

Its always cool to see how others approach a task when working on something like this.

I used a black basecoat because i'm planning on painting some source lighting on her and the darker base enhances the glowing effect. Its also much easier to get the effect when working from dark to light.

The paints I used for her coat are more of a blue-grey than anything. At the moment she is a little too grey so i'm going to glaze some richer blues over the grey to give a nice Trixie colour.

And yes, the masking is due to the fact that the majority of this piece so far has been painted with an airbrush.
