Ive had this one planned for a long time. I never liked the idea of Cadence just being a figure head for the Crystal Empire, i see her as more of its protector. So i decided to sculpt her looking suitibly badass.... hopefully.

Not much to look at at the moment, but when i get to sculpting her mane and tail billowing in the wind and her full set of crystal armour she'll look kinda cool.

pic 1 the base armature made from gardening wire
pic 2 after the first bake. still not sure about the head. something is off about it but hopefully i can rectify it when i add the helmet.

Base: plaster
armature: gardening wire
pony: supersculpey.

OK, that's an interesting Cadance. Gardening wire as main structure is a great idea. I'm using Plastic plates for this purpose, making the whole Body with them. So i have only to cover them with sculpting mass.

You say the base is made of plaster. Did you makeal that too or is that purchasable somewhere? Always looking for a good base manufacturer. And even i have found a fiew, maybe ther'e more.
Good propotions, as far as i can see.

The base is custom made. The bottom round bit was cast from an old ormiment stand and the 'rock' was a slab of set plaster that I chipped and cracked to shape then textured.

If you want bases for wargaming and the like the following companies are worth a look, even just for getting ideas:
Secret weapon miniatures
Wyrd
Micro arts studios
Dark age

Thanks for the answer and the Shops. I know a view of them, especially micro art studios. Unfortunately in a bad way. Since the owners got seperate ways, the Production is pure chaos. A lot of Bases are not avaiable and have to be new sculpted because of Copyright.

How do you do your Figures anyway. Just modelling from your mind or do you make some reverence sketches?

now that i think of it, i want to ask about the base. not the plaster part but the wood under it. do you make those yourself? or is there a place where i can buy really good looking wooden bases?

The base is all plaster. The round bit is plaster cast from a mold I took of a display base i got off ebay. I think i found it by looking for Bonsai stands.

The materials I used are in the description. As for tools I use metal sculptors and rubber tipped brushes. I dont have any vids of my sculpts, my video camera is not of decent enough quality for anything useful.
